Feldman and Brazil Buildings Dedicated
What would a Board of Governors Meeting be without the cornerstone-laying or dedication of some physical structure? In this case, the cornerstone had been laid a few years ago, and the 30th Board Meeting saw the dedication of two of the interconnected three-building complex for the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Sciences and Science Education.
The Dr. Enrique Feldman Building was a gift of the Atheneus Humanities Foundation in honor of Dr. Feldman’s three children, Alan, Nathan, and Sonia. Feldman, an Honorary Fellow of the University, inherited the tradition of supporting the University from his parents, when the family lived in Mexico. He now resides in Denver.
The second dedication was the Brazil Building, a gift of the Society of Friends of the University in Brazil. The Brazilian Friends also dedicated two classrooms in the building. The first of these honored Prof. Paulo Geiger and his vast activity on behalf of Jewish causes in Brazil. Geiger sent a letter saying that the “University of Haifa was forever my university in Israel.”
The second classroom was in honor of former Israeli Ambassador (to Colombia) Jacob Gotal for his promotion of the University in Brazil. Prof. Ruth Linn, Dean of the Faculty of Education, responded for the University by saying that peace can be made only from the lowest level—the kids. “Peace will come from the Faculty of Education,” she predicted.
