Dr. Elisha Linder, Pioneer Maritime Archeologist, Honored
Dr. Elisha Linder, who helped set up the Department of Maritime Civilizations at the University and indeed pioneered the entire field of maritime archeology in Israel, received the Israel Museum's Israel and Bible Lands Pershia Schimmel Award. It was given "in recognition of [his] contribution to archeological research in Israel and to the development of under archeology." Dr. Linder is now curator of the unusual museum that bears his name at the University, the Maagan Mikhael Ancient Ship--Elisha Linder Museum, where he oversees a meticulous reconstruction of a Phoenician-era merchantman right in the museum.
