The Etruscan Culture

The Etruscan civilization first appears in central Italy in the 8th century BCE. The special significance of its culture lies in the distinctive archaeological finds, and the fact that the Etruscan language has still not been completely deciphered. Etruscan culture was the most highly developed in Italy till Roman times. In spite of a strong Greek influence on their culture, inscription and other finds indicate that the Etruscans were not originally from Greek stock.
Richly ornamented graves provide the source of the Etruscan archaeological finds: metal and ceramic objects show a high artistic and technical standard. The display here includes several characteristic sculptures and pottery vessels.

The black or gray color is due to the special method of firing.
In their shapes they imitate metal vessels, and in their design a greek influence.
