Depending on the number of applicants, informal Reading Groups may also be organised for reading Greek and Latin texts or texts in translation.
Tutorial and Reading Group meetings will be held at hours and on texts to be agreed between myself and the pupils. Those applying to study texts in Greek or Latin must have had at least one year of Greek or Latin (and preferably two years) behind them. Those applying to study classical texts in translation need have done at least one course on classical heritage or in Greek philosophy. Texts in Latin need not necessarily be ancient - e.g., Latin works of Spinoza, Descartes or Aquinas are also offered. It is possible also to read literary or historical texts in Greek and Latin, but preference is given to philosophical texts. While auditing is not discouraged, those wishing to take a tutorial for a credit are advised to register with the secretary of the Philosophy Dept. or the secretary of the General History Dept. requesting to do 'kriah mudrechet' with me, but applicants are requested first to consult with me in relation to the availability of the tutorial in that semestre.

post-graduate studies
Students interested in working on M.A. or Ph.D. theses under me, should bear in mind that the field in which I work is ancient Greek and Roman philosophy, or historical subjects that impinge on that field (as Islamic Philosophy). I have mainly directed in the study of Plato, Aristotle, Plotinus and Hellenistic studies, though my own research is broader than these. Students interested in these fields are requested to think over the exact topic in which they would like to work before approaching me. An appointment should then be made for a full discussion in my office. Decisions like these are not made over the phone, and often take several meetings before a final topic for research is decided.
