Amit Gazit was born in Kibbutz Ein-Dor, and graduated in theatre directing from The Drama Centre, London. He was a resident director at the Be'er Sheva Theatre and the Haifa Municipal Theatre, and served as artistic director of the The Jerusalem Khan Theatre and Beit Liessin Theatre, Tel Aviv. Among the Numerous shows he directed are The Killing of Sister George, Saved, The Pillars of Society, Blood Knot , Measure for Measure, and Ivanov at the Be'er Sheva Theatre; The Grocery Shop, Brighton Beach Trilogy, Mire'le Efros, and The Rosenzweig Sisters at the Habimah National Theatre; A Night in May, Elke,Devils in the Basement, The Island, The Poisoned Mushroom, King of Israel, Inherit the Wind, and You Can't Take It With You at the Haifa Municipal Theatre; Hevre at the Khan Theatre; Extremeties , and Misha's Party at the Beit Liessin Theatre; Fleischer, Voyages, The Candle Children at The Cameri Theatre. Gazit has been teaching for many years at the Beit Zvi School of Theatre and directed at the Seminar Hakibbutzim drama school.
