Dr Israel
Hame'iri
was born in Kibbutz Givat Haim on 1948. He graduated in literature and
theatre from Tel Aviv University
received an MA degree from the University of Haifa, where he
also received his PhD, for a dissertation on "The Mythological Other in
Three Israeli Plays." Dr Hameiri began to publish short stories during his
army service. He has published seven volumes of prose to date
(among them "Pigs," "Symbiosis"). Hameiri's plays were produced
at The Cameri Theatre and The Haifa Municipal Theatre. His most recent play, To the Sea was produced by the The
Haifa Municipal Theatre in 1996 and Symbiosis
was read in a public reading of new Israeli plays at Beit Liessin Theatre. A novelist, playwright and critic,
Hameiri teaches drama and literature at The University of Haifa and
Menashe College. He lives with his family in Amirim, a small northern
agricultural community.
