Dr Vladimir Paperni was born in the Soviet Union in 1954. He holds
degrees from The University of Tartu,
Estonia, where he wrote his PhD on Russian Literature (1982). After
emigrating to Israel he joined the University of Haifa, where he teaches
Russian literature and and drama, and Russian literary theory. His fields
of research are: studies in poetics and history of Russian literature of
the 19th century: the creative work of Gogol and Tolstoy; also in the
early 20th century: the creative work of Alexander Blok, A. Bely, V.
Rozanov, and the poetics of Russian symbolism; studies of Russian
religious thought at the beginning of the 20th century, especially that
of Tolstoy, L. Shestov, V. Rozanov: in particular, from the aspect of
Russian-Jewish cultural interaction.
