Dr Shifra Shonmann is Lecturer at the University of Haifa School
of Education, where she teaches and is the founder anddirectress of the
Laboratory for Research in Theatre/Drama Education. She holds a PhD from
the University of Haifa in Theatre and drama eduction, a field on which
the continuing focus of her work and research is concentrating, as well
as curriculum planning, and teachers' training, and on which she has
published several articles and a book. She served also as the Chief
Inspector of theatre education, on behalf of the Ministry of Education
(from kindergarten to University level) in 1994-95, and was co-writer of
curriculums. She currently acts as chairperson for the National Theatre
Repertoire Committee for youth and children. among her publications are:
"Between text and counter-text: theatre in search of political meaning"
(Contemporary Theatre Review, 1995); "When a banner becomes a mere
slogan: integrating drama/theatre education into the curriculum in Israel
(Arts Education Policy Review, 1995); "The Culture of Classrooms
and the problem of policy in the making: the case of the Ugly Duckling"
(Arts Education Policy Review, 1996); and a book in Hebrew:
Theatre of the Classrom, (Tel Aviv: Tchericover, 1995).
Schonamann has founded and is coordinating the program for theatre teachers certificate, a joint project of the Department of Theatre and the Faculty of Education, University of Haifa.
