Dr Reuven Snir graduated from The Hebrew University in Jerusalem (Arabic Literature and Philosophy). His PhD dissertation deals with "Mystic Elements in Modern Arabic Poetry 1940-1980" (1987). He is a lecturer at the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the University of Haifa, where he serves as the head of the Section of Practical Arabic. He has published extensively on various aspects of Arabic prose, poetry and theatre as well as Hebrew writings of Arabs and oriental Jews. Snir is also a translator of Arabic poetry into the Hebrew and Hebrew poetry into the Arabic.

Among his books are *Literary Criticism of Modern Arabic Poetry* (ed. with introduction; Jerusalem, 1986 [Arabic]); *Anthology of Ascetic, Mystic and Metaphysical Arabic Poetry From the 8th Century to Our Days *(ed., with introduction; Jerusalem, 1986 [Arabic]); *The Myth in Modern Arabic Literature *(ed.; Jerusalem, 1987 [Arabic]);*Poesie Israelienne Contemporaine - 33 Poems* (traduction et introduction par Reuven Snir; Paris, 1996). Snir has published around 50 scholarly articles in refereed journals in addition to dozens of entries in scholarly encyclopedias.
