Dr Ala Susnovskaya was born in the USSR and graduated from the Ostrovsky Institute of Art and Theatre, Tashkent. She holds a PhD from the Institute of Art Sciences, Moscow (1983). Her dissertation is on "The Ways of Developments of Set Design in the Theatre in Mid-Asia." She taught courses on the interrelations between art and the the theatre, on theatre design, and the history of theatre architecture and stage design. Susnovskaya has published a book on Ways of Developments of Set Design in the Theatre in Mid-Asia, as well as albums on theatre and film artists. From 1991 she taught in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and since 1993 she is teaching at the University of Haifa. She has published articles in Bamah, Assaph: Theatre Studies, and Eastern Europe Jewry on Russian and Israeli stage designers and intercultural relations.
