Smadar Yaaron studied at the Department of Theatre Arts, Tel Aviv University. At the first Akko
Theatre (1980) she has taken part in David Ma'ayan's Alterman's The
Ghosts Inn, which received the first prize that year. With Ma'ayan,
she was a founding member of The Theatre Centre, Akko, where she
played, and won prizes for her major role in the much acclaimed production
of Arbeit macht frei vom
Toitland Europa, shown extensively in Akko and international
festivals in Europe and Asia. It was at that show where she
created her celebrated character of the holocaust survivor, that ageless
tragicomic figure of Selma Gruenwald, the heroine of her highly praised performance
piece Anthology
, extracted and
developed from the bigger show. Together with
Moni Yossef she is the current artistic director of the Akko theatre
centre, where they have produced Boyi Kala, and other
shows.
